Cash runway calculator
If more cash goes out each month than comes in, how long does the money in the bank last? Enter your cash and your average month and see your runway, plus what a cut in spending would buy you. Nothing is saved or sent anywhere.
Use averages from your bank statements over several months, including loan repayments and owner draws in cash out. Runway assumes every month looks like the average. The prefilled numbers are a made-up worked example, not typical figures: replace them with your own.
How it works
Monthly net burn = cash out − cash in. Runway in months = cash in the bank ÷ monthly net burn. Cut needed to break even = net burn ÷ cash out. If cash in is equal to or more than cash out, there is no burn and the cash does not run down.
Worked example (the values above): $9,000.00 out less $6,500.00 in is a net burn of $2,500.00 a month, so $18,000.00 lasts $18,000.00 ÷ $2,500.00 = 7.2 months. Cutting cash out by 10% brings it to $8,100.00, the burn to $1,600.00 and the runway to $18,000.00 ÷ $1,600.00 = 11.25, about 11.3 months. To stop burning cash altogether you would need to cut cash out by $2,500.00 ÷ $9,000.00 = 27.8%, or raise cash in by $2,500.00 a month.
